Benjamin is the CEO of Show Me Integrity, Missouri's nationally award-winning cross-partisan organization to create a more effective, ethical government. Show Me Integrity's board is composed of Republicans, Democrats, and independents working together for the common good.
Recent awards:
From 2019 to May 2020, Benjamin served as Communications Director for City of St. Louis Treasurer Tishaura O. Jones, overseeing multi-channel communications strategy to engage the people of St. Louis in their public services through digital, print, and news media. Jones was then elected mayor.
In 2018, Benjamin served as Communications Director for Clean Missouri, a cross-partisan, grassroots campaign to put voters before lobbyists, big donors, and partisan games. Clean Missouri's Amendment 1 passed with huge majorities of Republicans, Democrats, and Independents—Missourians white, black and brown—uniting to take power away from special interests and give it to the people.
Benjamin previously served as Political Director for The Patriotic Millionaires, a group of high-net-worth Americans dedicated to creating a prosperous nation. The Patriotic Millionaires believe, among other things, that every American should have the same access to political power as millionaires, corporations, and lobbyists. Benjamin develops and executes opportunities for members of the Patriotic Millionaires to achieve high-impact earned media and leverage with elected officials, with the goal of shifting the public narrative and political decision-making to democratize power in American politics.
He previously served as National Campaign Director at MAYDAY.US, the bipartisan campaign to elect reformers who would end big money politics. Under Benjamin's leadership, MAYDAY.US's grassroots mobilizations earned coverage in 10 targeted media markets across the country serving key Congressional districts. Benjamin led a new, more targeted, cost-effective campaign that helped reform legislation achieve record levels of support in the U.S. Congress.
Previously, Benjamin led a bipartisan, statewide campaign for campaign finance reform, making Illinois the 14th state to call for a Constitutional amendment overturning the Supreme Court's unpopular decision in Citizens United v. FEC. With Benjamin's leadership in Springfield and throughout the state, the coalition of grassroots supporters successfully obtained unheard-of bipartisan support for the measure. Benjamin also led other political reform efforts with Common Cause Illinois, including ensuring an effective base of fundraising and communications strategy.
Benjamin was named to the Jewish United Fund's inaugural "36 Under 36" list. Later, Benjamin was selected to participate in the Millstone Fellowship at the Jewish Federation of St. Louis.
After graduating from Northwestern, Benjamin directed all communications for A Safe Haven in Chicago, Illinois, which each year helps nearly 4,000 people from homelessness to self-sufficiency. Benjamin planned and implemented strategic communications initiatives, including developing and launching a new brand, that collectively increased online following by 1200%. His PR at A Safe Haven earned the Silver Trumpet Award for Issues Management from the Publicity Club of Chicago, as well as a second award for an annual report that featured stories, infographics, and emotional photos and quotes featuring formerly homeless individuals who had achieved stunning self-sufficiency, job training, and job placement rates. Benjamin also made proposals to revamp the organization's mass fundraising, and co-founded the 5k RUN! To End Homelessness, which has raised nearly $1 million to date.
Benjamin graduated from Northwestern University as a National Merit Scholar. He attended Parkway Central High School, Alexander Muss High School, Solomon Schechter Day School and participated in JCRC's Student-to-Student program to build bridges between different faith communities. Benjamin later co-founded a faith-based community organization and lived in a Moishe House. He brings his faith to his work to secure ethical processes that ensure ethical outcomes.
